Weeks 5-8
Well, the time is flying. I haven't been very good at keeping up with the website lately - you are keeping me very busy! Gone is the sweet sleepy newborn, you are much more demanding these days!

No more sleepy babe, you have woken up with a vengeance Owen. I can't believe
it. I almost went out of my mind the other night trying to calm you down.
I was convinced you must have developed colic. It was just insane. I think
we were both crying by the end. The only thing that calmed you was the bath
and listening to the running water.
And of course you pulled that the night before we were leaving for NYC and then for PA for your baptism. I can't say the car trip there was great either, but it could have been worse. I don't think you got the memo that babies love to ride in cars. At first I thought it was the carseat, but you don;t seem to mind being in it at other times. It seems to just be the car you hate. Even short car rides to Target become screaming nightmares.
Anyway, so we arrived in NYC - your first outing to the "Big City" as Alec calls it. You were fine all through the evening and dinner with Grammy and Pa, but then it started about 10 o'clock when we got back to our room - the inconsolable crying and fussing. Nothing would appease you, I tried it all - walking, bouncing, swaying, rocking, holding you upright, cradling you, holding you across my knees. We went into the bathroom and you had a bath in the sink which you loved - you are a true water baby - and then you were happy to listen to the running water for a bit, but then went back to your crying ways. You did finally settle down, but only after fraying several of my nerves. I just feel so helpless, that I can't figure out how to make you happy. I guess you are just using up all that stored energy from sleeping the whole first month of your life!
The next day while dad had his meeting, you, me and Alec were on our own in the big city. And let me say, it is much hotter in the big city than upstate. But the only way I could manage was to put Alec in the stroller and you in the carrier, so I hauled you all around town in my fleece pouch. Even though it was unbearably hot, you were so sweet and snuggly buggly that it was worth it. We did much better than I thought we would, you got a bit fussy in Central Park at the same time Alec decided to get defiant, so there was a time I thought I might lose it, but we survived. Oh and you need constant motion - so you weren't a fan when we stopped for lunch. I had to bounce and sway and walk through lunch - hope I didn't scare Becky too much. Your buddy-to-be Ian is due soon!
You smiled at your dad. He is over the moon.
We had your baptism at Mimi and Grandad's church since we don't have our own here. It was especially nice because Nan and Pop could make it as well and your Grammy and Pa did too. So everyone was there except Uncle Bob and Aunt Melissa. We missed them of course. You were very good for the baptism, just chilled the whole time until the priest poured the oil on your head and vigorously rubbed it in. Then you got the ice cold water poured over that - you were pretty upset! But it was a beautiful service, very different from the assembly line process of Alec's.

Oh my Owie,
you are just huge! All of a sudden you look so long, you're all stretched
out now, no more of the newborn curled up phase. You are one tall drink of
water. You have the sweetest biggest eyes, such a heartbreaker. At least your
mama's heart so far.
Time is flying. Every Monday I stop and remember when you were born, but I can't believe how the weeks are flying. I miss my newborn already. Though I do love my baby, love watching you grow and change everyday.
Owen, please, check your box for the car memo. Babies LIKE to ride in the car. Some even LOVE it. It is not some form of torture designed specifically for you. Please, please, start liking the car.
Oh you are my smiley guy. The real smiles. The ones that light your eyes up. Your mouth opens so big and wide and more to the left side than to the right. And your eyes, they are so happy and bright. I can't help but laugh a little every time you smile - you are so contagious.
You are now wearing 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers.

You
have mastered the art of different cries. You have a hungry one, an angry
one, and the sad one. Oh, the sad one. If you heard it it would break your
heart. And the face that goes along with it, well it's almost too much to
bear. I think you will be a drama queen.
You have the goopy eye. The plugged tear duct. Worse in your right eye but in your left as well. Oh it's so icky, I feel bad for you. Hopefully it will open soon. But we call you goopy eye, just like we did your brother. Other names you go by are the Ow-ee-bee-doe-ee, Owie, Baby O, snorter borter, squirter, A few others stolen from Alec's babyhood as well. But you are the only Ow-ee-bee-doe-ee I know!
You are all about the smiles right now. The laughter to - they are small shy chuckles but I know the full out belly laugh isn't far behind. You have great sleep smiles and laughs as well, a bit of a sigh too. I could watch you sleep for hours.
You have so much energy now! You kick and flail with a purpose now, your legs going super fast. And your favorite time to practice this skill is around 6 am, for at least an hour before you go back to sleep and then Alec is up for the day. I miss that extra hour of sleep!
You've got a shy smile now, such a flirt!
You know me, and I think you might even love me. When you look at me your whole face lights up. I am putty in your hands bud.
You coo, the sweetest, softest coo I have ever heard. So much wonder in that one little sound. Must.get.on.film.

You make
a sweet "O" shaped mouth when you are rooting.
You snuggle right into the hollow in my chest right under my chin. I could keep you there forever.
You had your 2 month doctors visit and the doctor said you are just fabulous, growing like mad and that she thought you were such an attentive and thoughtful little guy.
You got 4 shots at the doctor as well. I wanted to cry with you. Such a yell of anger and indignation you let out when they stuck you. Can't blame you one bit!
You have moved your fussy period from nighttime to Alec's nap time. Shoot me now.
You have what I call "crazy wild smiley times" You smile with your whole face, your whole body. You get so excited and make the widest O shaped smiles.
You are noticing and swatting at things more. Things keep your attention for pretty long periods of time. You can find your fists pretty easily now, which makes you very very happy!
