24 Months

You are so verbal now Alec! You have so many new phrases and expressions I just can't keep up with them. The following I'm copying from my blog:

1. "That be perfect!" - usually said extremely enthusiastically in response to offered snack.

2. "I know, name him Elmo! That great idea." - in response to the question what to name his baby brother.

3. "I need Elizabeth, go get him!" - in reference to a Thomas the Tank train character. He seems to be in denial she is really a girl.

4. "Come on mama, let's play!" - usually said when I am on the computer with a heavy stress on the "come on"

5. "I so glad you came home, I miss you so much." - usually said on my return from yoga class. This can always make me smile, no matter what black cloud spewed on me that day.

6. "My birthday over." - said with the most longing, the biggest sigh, and the frowniest face that a 2-year-old can muster.

7. "Trains, I wake up!" - said while running eagerly from his room to the train table after a nap.

8. "Dad needs gas." - when dad refused to wake up this morning.

9. "I coming! Running like an airplane!" - said while running with arms out and making airplane noises.

10. "Milk comes from moo-cows, apple juice comes from horsies." - but of course!

I just love your verbal self!

Your new question is "What happened?"

You now say "pleeeeeeease" when asking for something. It is said in the sweetest, most endearing, drawn out way. You are already learning how to work people! I have to say I do tend to give in more, it's just too cute.

You also now say "That be wonderful"

You are obsessed with classifying things we see at stores - as in toys you have or don't have. I always hear "I have this my home" or "I need this my home".

We stopped for gas the other night and you went into this long litany of your Little People cars and trucks and which ones needed gas and which ones didn't. I love your mind.

I was trying to get you to sleep one night and you just would not sleep. I was getting so frustrated but then you started telling me that "tomorrow be nice sunny day, maybe we go picnic!" How could I be angry when you say such random funny things? I have no idea where you picked up the sunny day/picnic thing. We haven't had a sunny day here in so long!

I hauled my big old self up off the floor where you and I were playing and I groaned and said "Oh, mama so big!" and you got up, groaned and said "Acca so little!" You keep me laughing!

En route to visit Mimi and Grandad I had to stop what felt like a gazillion times to pee and just walk around. Baby brother was wedged tightly into my right side making driving excruciating painful. We were at a rest stop and I groaned and you said, "What happened mama?" and I told you my belly hurt. And you replied, "I need to kiss it." And of course I felt instantly better.

You were playing with one of Uncle Brian's old Transformer cars and couldn't quite work it. So you said "I have a problem. Help me."

You were playing downstairs with Mimi and when you are with your Mimi, you want nothing to do with me. Nothing. I came downstairs and you looked up and shook your head and said "No, go upstairs mama. Clean a mess." Um, ok son. Poor Mama :(

You are making all these funny new noises. I can't even describe them. Sort of drooly noises, but just funny sounds and sing songy stuff.

Dada played in a hockey game today where the male business students dress in costume and play against the woman's team. You were so excited to go to the game! The kids could go on the ice at halftime and you were so excited. You kept saying "I go hockey game, wearing my bicycle helmet!" I don't think you recognized dada in his costume. During the game you would look at the players and say "I no see my dada, where is he?"

But you were fascinated by the Zamboni, and you had a great time on the ice and then playing with the kid's hockey sticks and pucks for the rest of the game. Then all the rest of the day all I heard was "Mama, come play hockey. Come play my ice mama." The corner of the play area where the Little People are has become your ice rink. So funny to hear you say "I play on my ice! Your turn mama. I score a goal!"

I was feeling very blue today. You asked me what was wrong and I said Mama was sad. You said "No mama sad, Mama perfect." Could anything have made my day more? Could I love you more? I don't think so.

More verbiage - yesterday you woke up from your nap and I went into get you and you looked so serious. You said "Mama, I don't have an airport for Jay Jay and Big Jake. I think is time to buy one." Um, OK. I'll get right on that.

We were playing at your train table and you couldn't get by my big self. So you said, "Excuse me mama, I need some room" - where you get these expressions! I am sure I say them, but it just cracks me up.

Reading book today and you see some snakes. You tell me "I don't like snakes. Snakes bad. I like geckos." Random kid!

Today you went on a trip. You got up and said "I need Bob the Builder suitcase!" So you got your BTB suitcase as well as the Thomas Tank one, and carrying them both you told me you were going on a trip. I asked you where you were going and you replied "Go Florida, see Grammy Pa." And I asked you how you would get there and you said "Go airport go airplane!" So then you carried your bags over to your toy car and got on it, sat there for about a minute, got off ran over to me yelling "Mama, I back! I go trip! Go airplane! I back!" This is the coolest age. So much for the terrible twos (yes, I know it is coming!) - but this is just so darn cool! You are too cool buddy. Thanks for making me smile and laugh every single day.

You ask "what that noise mama?"

You told me today "I very sorry mama"

You never want to leave the house! We were snow bound two days and I was itching to ge tout today. You told me you want to "stay my home, play my toys." Most frustrating and I wa most exhausted by the time I wrangled you into your snow gear and got you out the door. Wasn't I just saying how terrific you are?

You are getting very bossy. One phrase I hear a lot is "I need X, bring it to me" Yes master. And then today when I went in to get you from your nap, you said "Just put this down." Meaning the side of the crib. Ok buddy, whatever you say. I don't think you are really bossy at all, it's more just developing language. It's hard enough to get the point across without all the niceties as well :)

We were playing with your Thomas the Tank magnet book and you were upset because James didn't have a car to pull. So you stopped, put your finger to your cheek and said "Hmmm, what does James need. What does he need. Hmmmm. I just thinking. Let me think Mama. Hmmmm. I thinking, what does James need." And you kept posturing and sort of shifting your weight. I was dying. Literally rolling on the floor laughing. I must do this, where else would you have picked it up? But still, hilarious.

Your new thing to do while getting dressed is to scream loud and frantically "where are you mom! I can't see you!" as I put a shirt over your head. Sorry, I think it's somewhat funny.

Driving to Grandad and Mimi's house, as we got into their town, you started saying. "Where is my Mimi's house? I don't see it. Hmmmm, I thinking. I looking for white house. It has a roof." You are such a random kid.

We've been having a really hard time lately Alec. You just don't listen to me and it pushes me to the very edge. But then you do something so sweet it make me want to cry or hug you so hard it hurts. Like today in the car. We were just having a very bad morning. And I put my head on the steering wheel and said "I just want to cry." and from the back seat I hear this little voice say "Don't cry mama, it's ok, I love you very much." Sweet, precious boy.

You are such a funny old man sometimes. We were playing at your train table and we couldn't find the "white coal" that goes sin one of the cars. And I said, "Sorry buddy, I just don't know where it is." And instead of getting upset, you patted my back and said "Don't worry mama, we find it!" You got a big old hug for being my sweet little man :)

Oh Acca-boo, it is so hard to keep up with all the little things you say! You make me laugh all the time though. Such a funny little man. I hate that I can't remember them all though to write down here :(

You started telling me a story about Baby Brother today "Once upon a time, there was a little baby brother. He in mama's belly! He so little. He coming soon."

Your favorite expression seems to be "Do you want" you are so polite. When we are playing you'll say "Mama, do you want to be the truck? Mama, do you want to wear the helmet?" It is so funny to hear you be so formal.

You are really into pretend now, you love to wear your fireman hat and your "working man" hat. Keys are a big thing too. In the car you get bossy and say "Give me the keys. I need the keys"

You love the Richard Scarry books and everything is about Busytown. I had to go to Traffic Court today and you were so excited "Traffic court in Busytown Mama! See working men in Busytown!"

I forget what exactly you did, but I told you to "stop being such a bad boy" and you replied "I not a bad boy mama, I a good boy!" Ugh, I felt like the world's worst mother.

So I tried a different tactic, I asked you to please be a good boy for your mama. And you replied "Sorry mama, I no want to be good boy right now." Obviously I need to go to mama school. All my tactics fail! But you still make me laugh :)

Dad went on a business trip for a week and you were missing him. You lay your head in my lap and said "I need my dada" I thought my heart would break. You didn't quite get the trip concept and thought he was on the plane the whole time. Kind of funny :)

We went to Marshall's birthday party this weekend at the fire station. You were in heaven! Running all around, climbing on the fire engines, driving them, wearing your hat, you even got to spray the fire hose. You've been talking about it and wearing your fire hat non-stop since then. You had your yellow raincoat on and you said "I wear my coat, just like fireman!"
